Start of the Post it Note idea.

Following some brain-storming and looking at the research I've already found, about people's own perception of themselves I thought about different, and slightly more simplistic ways to convay what people think of themselves, the following pictures are the beginings of this pathway.

I have only started to do it over the mouth and attempted to do it over the eyes, I was thinking to expand it more but covering the face totally with post-it notes and better attempts at sticking it the skin, and possibly trying to get more than a word on the post-it notes and a small phrase. All these are attributes they see themselves as.
An artist influence is Gillian Wearing apart from what the stranger could write was more open than what they think about themselves. In my series of photos (which is yet to be continued) is over senses in which they would make their judgement about themselves. I could always expand the material, for example it can change from a post it note to something else.

Style.

Whilst doing some research for FMP I have found a fantastic new artist.
Heiko Muller.
I love the mixed media, spontaneous marks, random sketchs and sheer surrealism in his work as well as pure talent, defiantly a new influence.
Below are selected from his 2009 works which all are different by media and even style but they all maintain the great fun painting technique.

I think I could adopt some inspired ideas that I've got from looking up Muller, like adding people in a surreal atmosphere and not being afraid to sketch into a very fine piece of art work.

An update on the questions I sent out of people, I've got a few responses which I'm going to print off and put in my journal. I've recieved a vast range of people's self perceptions of themselves which is really interesting to read.

and let the artist in.

Do I even qualify to call myself that? An artist?

Being an art student has it's troubles, and it's perks. With university life slowly looming upon me, it's a weird, and always will be, a weird concept to call myself that.

Anyway a new blog, because of a new project.
My FMP has loomed upon. Choosing to do it on Self-perception and how people view themselves and why they feel like that. So, I sent the message below out to people, hoping of some replies.

"Hi, if you have a little spare time I’d really appreciate if you help me with my current Art Project. My project is on Self-perception so I’m just trying to collect some primary information relating to this.

If do feel like you do not wish to take part because it’s far too personal, that’s ok. For those who do, I’d like to confirm you that your answers will kept in the strictest confidentiality and will remain anonymous in my journal, for example.
The questions are as follow:

*Generally how do you view yourself?
-Why do you think this?
What are you not happy about, referring to yourself?
What are you happy about?*

Please bare in mind that self perception is not just physical looks, it can be your attitude, whether you think you act morally or not etc. Also, reasons why you may think this is very broad, some examples range from memories to media influences.

Many many thanks :) "

Hopefully I will get a handful of replies to narrow "self perception" down and help me explore my ideas. I am also taking photos of people for my first hand observations, as well as drawing them
